On the afternoon of October 20, 2023, Academician Huang Ru, the President of Southeast University, presented Professor Yang Kaizhong with the appointment letter as a part-time professor at Southeast University and also bestowed him with the university emblem.
Professor Yang Kaizhong is an internationally renowned expert in the fields of regional science, urbanization, and regional development. He currently serves as an Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, Dean of the School of Applied Economics at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Party Secretary of the Institute of Ecological Civilization Research at CASS, Director of the Xi Jinping Ecological Civilization Thought Research Center at CASS, and President of the China Regional Science Association.
Appointment Ceremony
The appointment ceremony was presided over by Yuan Jianhong, Party Secretary of the School of Economics and Management at Southeast University. President Huang Ru of Southeast University, Director Ji Min of the President's Office, Vice Party Secretary and Vice Dean Yin Wei, Vice Dean Pu Zhengning, Assistant to the Dean Liu Xiuyan, and Director of the Department of Finance Liu Xiaoxing were all present.
Professor Yang Kaizhong's affiliation will inject new energy into the construction of disciplinary connotation and characteristic development at Southeast University. It will also promote broader exchanges and cooperation between Southeast University and advanced universities and research institutions both domestically and internationally. Professor Yang's outstanding academic achievements in the field of economics will further enhance the research level and talent cultivation quality of the School of Applied Economics at our university, and contribute to the advancement of the discipline in the next round of disciplinary evaluations.
Academic Lecture
After the appointment ceremony, Professor Yang Kaizhong gave a lecture titled "An Integrated Analytical Framework for Green and Low-Carbon Development: I-NEE." He discussed the limitations of the old ecological economics framework and presented the construction path of the new ecological economics framework, I-NEE. He analyzed the important significance of this framework for the construction of ecological civilization.
Professor Yang Kaizhong stated that this framework is the most theoretically solid and comprehensive scientific framework for the construction of ecological civilization to date. It comprehensively portrays the human driving factors of environmental change and captures the key significance of energy, transportation, and their synergistic progress, as well as the core role of carbon emissions and carbon productivity in promoting low-carbon economic development. Professor Yang also pointed out that promoting comprehensive green transformation of the economy and society requires not only improving energy efficiency, energy substitution, and carbon reduction but also coordinating the development of population, transportation, industrialization, urbanization, land development, and spatial layout.
"Attracting high-quality ecological environment to support high-quality development and accelerating the promotion of harmonious coexistence between man and nature in modernization." In the concluding remarks of the academic lecture, Professor Yang Kaizhong emphasized the promotion of ecological civilization construction. He suggested that different regions should synergistically promote carbon reduction, pollution reduction, afforestation, and growth based on their own characteristics.
During the interactive exchange session, students actively asked questions and engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Yang. Professor Yang patiently answered the questions based on his own experiences and provided insightful explanations on the construction of the integrated analytical framework (I-NEE), ecological environmental quality, interdisciplinary advantages, and the challenges posed by ChatGPT to humanity, greatly benefiting the students.

We look forward to further communication and cooperation between Professor Yang Kaizhong and the School of Economics and Management at Southeast University, achieving new breakthroughs in teaching, research, university collaboration, and international exchanges, and collectively creating a new chapter in the disciplinary construction of Southeast University!
