On the afternoon of June 6th, 2022, “A Reunion of Classmates Brings the Splendor of the 120-year-anniversary”——an Interview of Alumnus of the School of Economics and Management was successfully held in the conference hall of the E&M building, which was hosted by the School of Economics and Management, organized by its Graduate Union and co-organized by its Student Union. To celebrate the 120-year-anniversary, the school invited distinguished alumnus to talk about their youth and bring back the memory of those busy years in SEU. Alumnus guests from a variety of careers, the heads of the school, faculty representatives, and more than 60 student representatives attended the activity.
The reunion started with all attendants singing the school song.
Yuan Jianhong, the Secretary of the School’s Party Committee, gave a welcoming speech. She warmly embraced the arrival of fellow alumnus, highly commented on the contributions they have made to their school and their country, and expressed her gratefulness for their concerns and support for the school. After tracing back to the establishment and development of the school, Secretary Yuan stressed the recent achievements of the school, expressed wishes about the bright future we together shall bring, then sincerely welcomed all alumnus to return to their “home school” when time allows.

During the following interview among alumnus, Li Lianshui and Wu Yingyu, new entries in the year 1977 from Nanjing Institute of Technology (NIT), and Chao Daijian, the new entry in the year 1977 from Cadre Graduate Course concerning Systems Engineering (Foreign Economy), shared their most unforgettable experiences in their teens and the understanding of “Leading talents”, encouraging students to carry on the responsibility history has bestowed upon us, inherit the spirit of SEU, and become the “Leading talent” of the next generation. Cao Jie, the new entry in the year 1996, and Yao Hong, the new entry in the year 2006, showed everyone how their mother school influenced them in their career and business. Gu Huamin, the new entry in the year 1980 from NIT and a member of MBA courses in 1990, Zhang Haifeng, the new entry in the year 1993 from SEU and a member of EMBA courses in 2013, Zhang Lei, the new entry in the year 1998, and Zhao Guorong, the Chairman and General Manager of Nuode Logistics Co., Ltd, together gave their sincere advice to young students, heartening them to comprehensively develop themselves, practice their innovative ability and entrepreneurship, striving to be the compound leading talent.

As the event went on, Zhong Weijun, Da Qingli, Wang Wenwu, He Jianmin, Xu Kangning, Liu Xiaoxing, and other senior professors of our school interacted with guests on the stage, sharing their stories of when they were in SEU. The professors all expressed their high appraisal of former students’ accomplishments while reminding them to always have their mother school in their mind and make greater contributions to society. The alumnus also expressed their thankfulness to the professors for their careful teaching.

Between the interviews, Chao Daijian sang the song Nostalgia with unparalleled passion, which was also his composition. Home is a song that ever goes on, and all who find us shall know the tune. The school left its graduates countless memories, and that’s where Chao’s creation came from.

As the activity drew near an end, Dai Zhuoran, the student representative, sang the song Vast Lands and Rivers. Of a thousand paths that tread, of a thousand rivers that crossed, as old friends are now together, no one can match their splendor. In the lingering tune, all student representatives offered flowers to alumnus guests, and then they spontaneously offered them to their teachers and professors. A good teacher is also a life-long tutor. Attendants were all moved by this scene.

With a hundred years of history in having a business major and thirty years of history in establishing the school, the School of Economics and Management holds the duty of cultivating top talents in the world, making educating one’s mind its fundamental role, and fostering economic and managemental talents for the next digital age. The interview of alumni gave our pupils new ideas, encouraging them to study hard, move forward, inherit the SEU spirit, and become the future leading talents. A reunion of classmates brings the splendor of the 120-year-anniversary, and we shall gain new glory in the next sixty years!
