From August 10th to 12th, the 18th International Conference on Service System and Service Management (ICSSSM2023) was successfully held in the Jiangsu Conference Center. It was co-sponsored by Southeast University, Tsinghua University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and IEEE SMCS (IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society).and jointly organized by the School of Economics and Management of Southeast University and the School of Transportation. Renowned scholars from the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and other places shared cutting-edge international research around the theme of "Service Management in the new digital Intelligence Era", and discussed the future research direction of service systems and service management in the context of digital economy and artificial intelligence. The conference attracted more than 200 experts, scholars, and industry participants from more than 100 institutions around the world.

At the opening ceremony, Liu Pan, co-chairman of the conference and Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University, delivered a speech.  He said that Southeast University implements the latest instructions put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection and investigation in Jiangsu, and strives to be the vanguard of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics in the direction guided by the General Secretary with loyalty and gratitude. In the future, Southeast University will further strengthen the academic exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation with brother colleges, research institutes, and related enterprises, and jointly promote the new development of China's service management science theory and application.

Chen Jian, co-chairman of the conference and Professor of Lenovo at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, delivered a speech. He first spoke highly of and fully affirmed the hosting work of Southeast University, and pointed out that the ICSSSM conference has been held since 2004, and has become an important international academic exchange platform for management science and systems engineering disciplines. With the advent of the digital age, society urgently needs the development of the digitalization of the Chinese service industry. The theme of the conference "Service Management in the New Digital Intelligence Era" came into being, and we look forward to fruitful results from the conference.

Professor Yuan Jianhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Economics and Management, Southeast University; Professor Yang Yi, Deputy Dean of the School of Management, Zhejiang University; Professor Su Qiang, School of Economics and Management, Tongji University; Professor Jiang Zhongzhong, Dean of School of Business Administration, Northeastern University; Professor Yu Honghai, Dean of School of Engineering Management, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Professor Wang Qunwei, Dean of School of Economics and Management, Nanjing University of Engineering Management Prof. Shen Houcai presided over the opening ceremony and keynote report of the conference respectively. Professor Xiao Yongbo, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University, presided over the award ceremony and the closing ceremony of the conference.

The conference consists of six general conference reports, three invited forums (OM Young Scholars Forum, IS Young Scholars Forum, and Editors Forum), and 12 parallel forums. In the keynote speech stage, Liu Zuoyi, Deputy Director of the NSFC Management Science Department, introduced the funding situation of the NSFC Management Science Department to the participants; Professor Huang Haijun, vice President of Beihang University, gave a presentation entitled "Behavior-based Traffic Network Reliability", in which he proposed the establishment of a research framework including accident cascade failure, multi-criteria route selection behavior, and new traffic management mechanisms. Based on the actual and experimental network big data analysis, the network reliability of social good routing, random perception routing, and risk preference routing is considered, and some new findings are obtained. Professor Chen Xin from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, gave a report entitled "Markov Decision Process with Large Lead Time", discussing the potential application of semi-open loop control to service systems. Professor Jianqing Chen from the University of Texas at Dallas made a report entitled "Platform Business Model and Platform Strategy", which compared the business models of C2C trading platforms, discussed the effectiveness of sponsorship on crowdsourcing platforms, and discussed the governance of online game platforms. A presentation titled "Quality Service and Smart Supply Chain" by Dr. Lian Jichun, Director of Lenovo Group's Service Supply Chain Department, which provided an overview of Lenovo's service supply chain organization, revealed its digital transformation strategy and the obstacles encountered in the transformation, and promoted ISSC's digital transformation journey; Hu Hao, head of JD's Y division, gave a report entitled "JD strengthens its supply chain capabilities with Advanced Analytics", introducing JD's strengthening of its supply chain flexibility and achieving shared value by focusing on supply chain efficiency, supply chain resilience, and customer demand intelligence.

In the thematic forum stage, the OM Young Scholars Forum was chaired by Professor Feng Bo, Dean of Soochow Business School of Soochow University, and invited Professor Li Yongjian of Nankai University, Assistant Professor Mao Xiaojie of Tsinghua University, and Assistant Professor Zhang Yue of Pennsylvania State University to give keynote speeches respectively, and exchange experiences and experiences in doing scientific research, writing high-level academic papers, condensing academic directions, discovering scientific problems and other academic growth with the participants. The IS Young Scholars Forum was chaired by Professor Song Peijian of Nanjing University, and Professor Yang Chaolin of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Professor Wang Jingyuan of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Professor Zhang Ziqiong of Harbin Institute of Technology were invited to give keynote speeches respectively. The Editors' Forum invited Feng Xu, a professor at Tianjin University, coordinating editor of the Journal of Management Science and Engineering, and associate editor-in-chief of Finance Research Letters. Luo Jun, professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and director of the editorial department of the Journal of Systems Management; Wu Dong, associate professor of Zhejiang University, editorial board member of Ring, and member of the editorial board of Journal of Digital Economy (JDE); Xiao Yongbo, professor at Tsinghua University and executive editor of Journal of Systems Science and Systems Engineering, participated.

The 12 parallel forums of this academic conference mainly focus on topics such as service-oriented supply chain management, healthcare service intelligence and optimization, online platform service management, intelligent mobility, and sustainable transportation services, data analysis and service management, innovative models of transportation and logistics management, retail and operations management, shared service economy, e-commerce and service management, and data-driven inventory management.

It is reported that ICSSSM mainly focuses on the international frontier issues of service system and service management, and has become an international academic conference with significant influence in the field of management science and systems engineering. Since 2004, ICSSSM has been held in Beijing, Troyes, Melbourne, Tokyo, and other places. The conference held in Nanjing is a high-level, high-quality and, high-efficiency international academic event by establishing a forward-looking, strategic, and comprehensive international high-end academic exchange platform in the field of service system and service management, and in-depth discussion of cutting-edge scientific issues of service system and service management under the new generation of information technology.
