Sales of experience goods are tied to consumers’strategic waiting behavior, which is driven by risk and a lack of knowledge about the goods’applicability, the result can be sharply lower profits for the seller. However, the rapidly growing platform economy is reversing this situation. The emergence of resale platforms decreases the risks consumers face. Furthermore, the elimination of physical distance allows consumers to learn about the applicability of experience goods from other consumers’ reviews. However, research has yet to examine the dual influence of resale platforms and consumer learning on consumer behavior and sellers’ decisions. We develop a two-stage analytical model that clarifies both the conflict and interaction between the resale platform and consumer learning. We derive an interesting result: the seller benefits from the resale platform and consumer learning separately, but the seller is harmed from combining them. We also clarify that consumer learning has a double-edged effect.

报告人简介

李勇建,南开大学商学院教授、博导、系主任。国家杰出青年基金获得者。研究领域主要有:物流与供应链管理、行为运营管理、平台经济下的运营管理。在学术期刊发表论文百余篇,出版学术专著3部。其中SCI/SSCI收录论文60余篇,发表在运营和供应链管理领域国际顶级和知名学术期刊,如POMDecision SciencesOmegaSupply Chain Management: an International JournalEJOREuropean Management Journal等。主持国家自然科学基金项目、国家社科重大项目、教育部人文社科重点研究基地重大项目等。入选教育部新世纪优秀人才计划、天津市“131”创新型人才培养工程第一层次;霍英东青年教师基金和中国青年科技奖获得者。目前兼任中国管理科学与工程学会常务理事;中国系统工程学会常务理事等学会职务。
