In this talk, we will present the planning and recovery of aircraft and air-cargo simultaneously. In the traditional air-cargo planning and recovery process, freighter airlines will first plan the aircraft routes and the cargo routing subsequently. In such process, the cargo short connections is limited. A cargo short connection allows the cargo to stay on the same aircraft without any ground operations between two consecutive flights, so the cargo ground transshipment time could be shorter than the standard cargo transshipment time. The cargo short connection will promote the schedule robustness and reduced the operational cost. In the previous study on the integration of aircraft and air-cargo planning/recovery, short cargo connection is not allowed because there is no synchronization between aircraft routing and cargo routing. In our study, we address this issue by presenting an integration model that synchronize the aircraft routing and cargo routing. The proposed model will select the best set of short connections, so the overall operational cost is minimized. To solve the planning and recovery models, a column-and-row generation framework is proposed to solve the model, and a valid inequality is presented to strengthen the formulation. The computational results on the real-life data show the proposed model and solution methods can produce better result than the traditional method. |
